An au pair (/oʊˈpɛər/; plural: au pairs) is a helper from a foreign country working for, and living as part of, a host family. Typically, au pairs take on a share of the family’s responsibility for childcare as well as some housework, and receive a monetary allowance or stipend for personal use. Au pair arrangements are often subject to government restrictions which specify an age range usually from mid-late teens to mid to late twenties, and may explicitly limit the arrangement to females. The au pair program is considered a form of cultural exchange that gives the family and the au pairs a chance to experience and learn new cultures.

Arrangements differ between Europe, where the concept originated, and North America. In Europe, au pairs are only supposed to work part-time, and they often also study part-time, generally focusing on the language of the host country. In the United States, they may provide full-time childcare. In 1969, the European Agreement on Au Pair Placement was signed, and it came into force in 1971. Au pair companies in the United States have significant non-refundable fees once the au pair arrives in the country. The contract does not guarantee childcare, despite many families’ reliance on the program.

Aide Iskandar bin Sahak (born 28 May 1975) is a former professional footballer. He was a member of the Singapore national team which won the ASEAN Football Championship in 1998, 2004 and 2007, captaining the team in the latter two editions.

He spent 10 years with Home United in the S-league before opting to join Johor FA in the Malaysian League in November 2005. He then went on loan at Tampines Rovers for the 2006 season in Singapore. He moved to Geylang United in 2007.

He made it to the latest FIFA Century Club list on 17 May 2007.

On 26 August 2007, Aide insulted referee Sukhbir Singh, reportedly asking, “How much did you bet on the game?” after his team, Geylang United controversially lost to Home United in a league game by conceding two goals in the final five minutes. A ban of five games and a S$2500 fine was imposed on Aide on 4 September. Upon appeal, the FAS reduced his ban to two matches and increased his fine to S$4,000 in November.
