Random information on the term “Expansive”:

In mathematics, the notion of expansivity formalizes the notion of points moving away from one another under the action of an iterated function. The idea of expansivity is fairly rigid, as the definition of positive expansivity, below, as well as the Schwarz–Ahlfors–Pick theorem demonstrate.

If ( X , d ) {\displaystyle (X,d)} is a metric space, a homeomorphism f : X → X {\displaystyle f\colon X\to X} is said to be expansive if there is a constant

called the expansivity constant, such that for every pair of points x ≠ y {\displaystyle x\neq y} in X {\displaystyle X} there is an integer n {\displaystyle n} such that

Note that in this definition, n {\displaystyle n} can be positive or negative, and so f {\displaystyle f} may be expansive in the forward or backward directions.

Crosby was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Humboldt and Sonoma counties in Northern California, raised by a single mother from an upper-class family who owned a record store in Fortuna, California.
