Random information on the term “Epoch”:

An olympiad (Greek: Ὀλυμπιάς, Olympiás) is a period of four years, particularly those associated with the ancient and modern Olympic Games.

Although the ancient Olympics were established during Greece’s Archaic Era, it was not until Hippias that a consistent list was established and not until Ephorus in the Hellenistic period that the first recorded Olympic contest was used as a calendar epoch. Ancient authors agreed that other Olympics had been held before the race won by Coroebus but disagreed on how many; the convention was established to place Coroebus’s victory at a time equivalent to the summer of 776 BC in the Gregorian calendar and to treat it as Year 1 of Olympiad 1. Olympiad 2 began with the next games in the summer of 772 BC.

Thus, for N less than 195, Olympiad N is reckoned as starting in the year 780 − ( 4 × N ) {\displaystyle 780-(4\times N)}  BC and ending four years later. For N greater than or equal to 195, Olympiad N started in AD  ( 4 × N ) − 779 {\displaystyle (4\times N)-779} and ended four years later. By extrapolation, the2nd year of the 700th Olympiad began roughly around 2 August 2022.

Countries in the East Asian cultural sphere (China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and their diaspora) have traditionally used specific methods of determining a person’s numerical age based not on their birthday but on the calendar year. These methods see only limited use in certain contexts and areas, mainly in South Korea and Taiwan. However, in 2022, the government of South Korea announced plans to switch from the Korean age system to the international age system. A person’s Korean age will always differ from their international age by one or two years.

In China, where the system originated millennia ago, people are considered to be one “year old” at birth (one sui 嵗/岁), and on New Year’s Day of the lunar calendar, another year is added to their age. In other words, age is counted with ordinal numbers, not cardinal numbers; also, age is counted from the lunar new year, not from the date of birth. The Korean system uses the Gregorian calendar.

South Koreans also use a third system sometimes called “year age”, especially for administrative purposes, determined by the birth year and the current year. To put it simply, the equation is given by marking a person to be zero years old at birth, or
